While many of us have experienced burnout, it’s not always something we wish to re-visit.
For me, burnout was a turning point in my life and I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my story in the book, Overcoming Burnout, Real-life Strategies for Burnout Recovery and Prevention, By David Greenwood.
This is what David had to say about his book…
“We’ve talked about burnout and how to recover from it in a street-smart way I’ve made it clear several times in the book that I am not trying to scare anybody through the stories of burnout, but to let people know how bad burnout can get. As you know some of the content is heavy and I’ve told readers that if they need to put the book down for a brief period of time, that’s the way to read this. But I feel this is the best way to create awareness about this silent epidemic of burnout.”
To give you a sneak peak, here are some excerpts from my story…
“There have been many movies over the years glorifying the lifestyle of working at ad agencies and the marketing world. These people come in early, work late, eat like crap, sleep a few hours a night and do it all over again…
One thing that I think is common in the world of marketing and agency life is that many of us are workaholics. I know I was for many years and Sara stated that she was no different either. She had a tendency to be a workaholic and brought that from one agency to the next….
She said at one agency several of the employees would show up as early as 4:30 AM to start working. And many would stay late into the night. On other occasions, she would hear people in the bathroom crying because of the intense work culture…”
There is so much more to my story, including more breakdowns and a miscarriage. If you’re struggling with any of these issues, I’d be happy to be a listening ear and an open heart for you. Reach out to me at sara@mypersonalbrand.ca.
